Turks & Caicos Part 3
Our home away from home for the next week is the “Castaway” Villa in Thompson Cove, Turks and Caicos. Yes it is all that and more!
It has been a while since we've spent quality time with our Seattle friends and one brilliant person decided we should all rent a house in Turks and Caicos. T & C has long been on my travel list, so the decision was an easy one. We settled on a date, and then selected a 5 bedroom property on the ocean, all with en suite bathrooms. No bathroom sharing is key if you all wanna get along! It is a party of nine and I mean it.
Being on the east coast, Bob and I are the first to arrive as one can get a direct flight out of Boston Logan Airport to Providenciales International Airport on JetBlue. It takes all of 3.5 hours and we are there well before noon. Since our check-in time at the house is 4pm and we have no idea where it is, we decide to drive around a bit and get our bearings while we wait for the others to arrive. Turks and Caicos is a series of 40 large and small islands with Providenciales being the most developed. It is pretty navigable. I believe our house is near Grace Bay, so we focus our exploration around there. We then decide it's time for lunch, so a quick Google search comes up with the Grace Bay Club. Sound perfect, let's go.
The Infiniti Restaurant and Raw Bar at the Grace Bay Club has one of the best views on all of Grace Bay Beach, excellent drinks and food plus a very long cigar bar for cocktails and smokes under the straw lanterns at sunset.
The Grace Bay Club is in a beautiful spot right on the beach. The grounds are immaculate and the people that work there are super friendly! After a brief look around we end up at the Infiniti Restaurant and Raw Bar with incredible views of the ocean! There is seating under the palm trees, but it is HOT here, so we opt for the undercover seating and order two cold beverages. Eventually we contact the villa rental company, TC Villas, to inquire about an early check-in. They are ready for us now and provide us with an address. Never mind lunch, time to check in! A quick 10 minute ride gets us to our new home for the next week and it is looking pretty sweet! Photos courtesy of TC Villas.
Our beautiful beachside villa in Turks and Caicos, photos courtesy of TC Villas. Holds 5 couples, each with their own bedroom with private bathroom, a spacious living area, well equipped kitchen, infinity pool with a view and more. They manage many properties on island with a wide range of price points.
Again, we are the first to arrive and scope out the rooms and the premises. All of the rooms are pretty much the same, so choosing rooms will be easy. The others slowly arrive and in no time we are in that pool! Before the property managers leave they tell us about Da Conch Shack, a funky little beach restaurant and bar that is a 5 minute walk down the beach. We shall dine there tonight!
Having a little fun at “Da Conch Shack”. Rum punch, fresh fish, and conch many different ways.
Da Conch Shack is a tricked out Caribbean beach bar/restaurant - simple, yet bigger than most, with a large restaurant area and space for live music, which I believe happens later in the evening. We all enjoy our meals and pitchers of rum punch, then head back down the beach towards our humble villa to swim and enjoy the evening. Tomorrow we dine out for Mother's Day and don't do a whole lot of anything else, but there are a few excursions planned for the week and I will keep you up to date. Be sure to check in!
