Banana Bread with Chocolate Chips & Walnuts Recipe

I might have gone overboard on the butter, but this banana bread with chocolate chips and walnuts on a rainy day is a little bit of a splurge.

I have four bananas that are close to checking out so we are making banana bread today. My sister makes the best banana bread but she works for a living so instead of calling her for her recipe I am gonna figure it out. I look at a few recipes online and meld a few together. Then I spill way too much cinnamon in it and it works. Here we go.

DRY INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt

WET INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 eggs
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 stick melted butter

OTHER INGREDIENTS:

  • 4 very ripe and mashed bananas
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup walnuts

First, preheat oven to 350 degrees and get all your ingredients together.

The wet and dry ingredients are together, plus all the ancillary items. I know, sugar is not wet but it goes in with the eggs and butter. The batter comes together quickly. I’m no baker, but this is a pretty easy recipe!

Combine dry ingredients together in a medium sized bowl and give them a gentle stir. Next, combine eggs, sugar and butter in a larger bowl and mix lightly with a hand mixer. Slowly add the dry ingredients into the wet. Then, add the mashed bananas with the vanilla, cinnamon, chocolate chips and walnuts and mix just until combined. Feel free to add more chocolate chips and nuts. And cinnamon. Pour into a buttered 9" x 5" loaf pan and bake at 350 degrees for 50 minutes to an hour. Let cool for 20 minutes or so, then serve as is or with a huge slathering of butter as pictured above. Share with friends and family.
