Day 2 in Newport Beach, CA

Sunset at Crystal Cove State Park, Newport, California.

It is a December morning in Southern California, and the weather is beautiful! Bob and I enjoy breakfast oustide on the deck and I blog a little bit while he gets ready for golf. Once he is gone and I am done writing, I meet a friend for lunch at the Coliseum Pool and Grill at Pelican Hill. They claim they have the world's largest circular pool, and while I don't go around measuring these things, I assume they are correct. Here are a few scenes from the Coliseum Grill and Pelican Hill in general.

The view from our bungalow plus surrounds at The Resort at Pelican Hill. It’s December. The pool is 82 degrees.

After lunch, Barbara and I decide on an excursion. We are going to take the shuttle to Crystal Cove State Park to explore a bit and stroll along the beach. Crystal Cove is maybe 10 minutes (if not less) from the resort. It is 3.5 miles of uninterrupted, pristine and beautiful coastline, a restaurant called the Beachcomber Cafe, and some historically important old-school cottages in dire need of restoration. There is a funding drive underway for the revamp, by the way. It is Sunday afternoon, 65 degrees, and the people of SoCal are doing what they do best -- enjoying nature with family and friends. I could live here in a hot second.

After sitting at a picnic table and enjoying the views, we embark on a beach walk, but after 5 minutes I realize I lost my credit card, so we go back to the picnic table and there it is on the sand. Must have fallen out of my pocket. I dust it off and we use it for a glass of wine at the Beachcomber. So relaxing!! Actually, I think Barbara paid, but it is now time to head back to Pelican Hill as we have a group dinner at the Montage Hotel, Laguna Beach. It's pretty swanky here, especially all decked out for the holidays. We are a party of 10 or so, it is a business dinner, I know very few of these people yet I make them all take pictures of their food on my phone.

After dinner, Bob and I walk down to our room and it is pretty. Tomorrow is another day, be sure to check in as I already know what I did, and it was fun.
